Antique and classic cars have with them a certain character which makes them valuable, not only in monetary terms but in terms of intrinsic value. They are not seen as mere tools for transportation but as rare things which through time has developed their own souls. Many people are amazed in awe when brought to the presence of antique and classic cars.

Antique cars have almost always been synonymous with classic cars. However, there are certain differences among the two terms. An antique car is defined by the Antique Automobile Club of America (and by other such organizations worldwide) as a car that is over 25 years old. This means that cars that were created in 1981 can be considered as antique cars. A classic car, however, is a definition which applies to specific high-quality cars which were developed before the Second World War. Therefore, we can see classic cars as a subset of the more general groups which is the antique cars. There maybe differences in terms of defining these terms but basically they are the same in terms of how people see them in terms of their character and value.

Antique and Classic Cars: Investments

Many people are going into antique and classic car collecting because they see them as investments. Others may criticize this view of antique and classic cars because history seems to point to these cars as non-bankable and very speculative investments. This argument maybe true, as manifested by the 1990s, when the monetary value of classic and antique cars came plunging down after gaining impressive heights during the 80s.

However, many rely on sheer rarity of the pieces alone to build their confidence in collecting them. It's basic economics, the laws of supply and demand. Many of the older cars are becoming more and more extinct as the days go by. Efforts in maintaining and restoring these cars may finally pay off in the future. The fruits may not be reaped by the original antique and classic car enthusiast who ventured in the endeavor, but definitely, these benefits will be passed on to the future generations, who may not have the privilege of being in the presence of these wonderful machines if not for the efforts of the collectors.

Love of antique and classic cars

As the famous Jay Leno said- "go for something that you would enjoy." This is a mentality that has been adopted by many collectors, well, even if Jay Leno had not said it. There's a certain unexplainable feeling that restorers and collectors get when they see the improvements that are made in the conditions of antique and classic cars. More than the monetary value, classic and antique cars have intrinsic value in them.

The Value of an Antique or Classic Car

More than the monetary value that is expected from getting one's hands on these babies, the value of antique and classic cars can never be really measured by one standard alone. The value of certain things, such as antique cars, is really dependent on the beholder, just like beauty. A person may be more emotionally attached to a certain piece and this fact can make that piece more valuable to him. A person may consider condition as a primary factor in assessing the value of a classic or antique car, another may consider rarity as the most important factor. It really depends on the person.
