The National Automobile Dealers Association and the Kelley Blue Book have online references to help donors determine the value of their auto donation. Catholic charities normally determines the value of the vehicle based on its running condition and physical appearance.

A "low value" auto donation will earn the donor a tax deduction of $500. The tax benefit will be limited to how much the car fetched in an auto auction if the value goes over $500.

Cars safe and still in acceptable running condition can be utilized by the Catholic charity in its various functions.
