Collector cars may be various types of antique cars. Collector cars may be rare and hard to find cars. Or collector cars may just be a collection of cars that are noteworthy for some reason or other.
Collector cars are cars that are being collected for one reason or another by someone. Some people get involved with collector cars because they love a certain type of car and begin collecting them. AS they get deeper and more deeply involved in collector cars, they usually begin to refine their tastes and their quest becomes for evermore rare and exotic collector cars. Some people, if they have enough money, gather a bunch of collector cars just for their own amusement, while some people try to turn their collector cars habit into a money making attraction and thereby support their collector car habit through admission fees to small collector car museums.
I doubt anybody has ever gotten rich this way, but it can help defray some of the costs involved in collecting collector cars.
Some collector cars are very rare and therefor very valuable. These collector cars may be rare due to the fact that there are very few produced in the first place. Or these collector cars may have become rare due to their extreme age. Back in the old days, even production line cars were not made by the millions so a one hundred year old car might have been hand made and only a few were ever produced which makes them collector car. Even a car built seventy years ago might have been produced only in the thousands and so today, there may not be many of them left and so they are collector cars.
Collector cars can be new cars too. Some people specialize in sports cars as collector cars. Due to their expense and many custom features, these collector cars don't have to be old to be of interest as collector cars. Even new sports cars may not be produced in large volume so they are instantly rare and collectable. Plus the fascination with sports cars because they are so powerful and mast makes them great collector cars.
Cars might become collectors due to their being noteworthy in some way. Maybe they were owned by someone famous or they were involved in some historic or infamous incident, but these cars can also be collector cars.
