How To Be More Fuel Efficient
Believe it or not, there are several steps you can take, in order to be a more conscientious consumer when it comes to purchasing gasoline. Although gas prices continue to be on the rise, you do not have to fall prey to this economic surge. Instead, the following is a list of tips on how you can conserve gasoline; get the most out of every gallon, which will result in you saving money.
One of the first steps you can take is to drive less. This suggestion may sound oversimplified; however, it reins true. If you plan your activities that require less travel, then you can save a bundle. For example, plan entertainment at home, instead of going out. When you do go somewhere, try to walk, bike or use public transportation. Also, join a car pool or call a friend to run errands with.
That brings me to my next tip. Plan your errands. If you plan to run your errands in a logical sequence, then you will not have to backtrack. You will spend less time driving to and from and to and from and save more time. Let’s say its Saturday morning and you have five errands to run. If the post office is the farthest location from your home, then start there and work your way back.
It is important to drive conservatively. If you lower your speeds you will conserve gas. Therefore, anticipate your stops and slowdowns. Likewise, if you slower your starts and gradually accelerate, then you will not only improve your fuel economy, your car will have less wear and tear.
Another important, easy step you can perform, that will help you save on gasoline is to minimize the use of your vehicles air conditioner. Using less air conditioning will significantly decrease your gasoline consumption. Before turning on the air conditioning, open your windows to let the hot air out. You can also park in the shade or use a sunshade to help keep your car cooler on a warm, hot day. You can reduce the need for air conditioning by choosing a car with light exterior and interior colors.
Finally, to help you save on gasoline, keep your vehicle clean. Believe it or not, dirt build up on the outside of a vehicle can increase air resistance, which in turn reduces fuel efficiency at high speeds. The tips mentioned are simple steps you can take that will result in greater fuel efficiency and therefore less money spent on gasoline.
