No doubt, the Texas DWI laws are very stringent and punitive. These laws are imposed on people who are caught driving while intoxicated. As generally seen, most of the DWI or DUI laws refer to those under the age of 21 operating a motor vehicle with detectable alcohol in the body. Here we should note that one must be proved intoxicated to obtain a conviction. The person must be in the state of intoxication while operating a vehicle in a public place, such as highways or general roads.

DWI is a term used to indicate a crime on road via motorized vehicles in Texas. It is an acronym for ‘Driving While Intoxicated’.

If a police officer requires convicting a person under Texas DWI laws, the following conditions must be proved.

a) The person is intoxicated while driving in a public place in Texas.

b) The person must have a blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 or more.

A person convicted will have to lose his/her driving license under automatic suspension. This rules out the possibility of obtaining a work-related driving permit. If a person repeats the offence, he or she may face serious punishments. In case of a first DWI, a person can put in to jail for up to one hundred and eighty days. An optional fine of up to $2,000 dollars and license suspension for twelve months can also be faced.

If an arrest under Texas DWI law is repeated within ten years of the first offense, the person may land up in jail for a year, needs to part with $4,000 as fine and face a license suspension for twenty-four months. Offenses at felony level (at subsequent attempts) require facing state imprisonment for two years and up to twenty years for an intoxication manslaughter charge.

A criminal status of Class B misdemeanor in Texas is an offense and the convicted must spend seventy-two hours in jail. He or she may also have to pay a fine of $2,000 and a possible surcharge of $1,000 for three years. The person may also have to face license suspension for twelve months.

In case of a Class A misdemeanor, one requires facing Jail time for seventy two hours. If it is a third offense, one can face 2-10 years in prison and a fine of $4,000. This will also result in the surcharge of $1500 per year for 36 months.

It is also important to not that the Texas DWI law provides for intoxication by the introduction of any intoxicating substance in to the body. These laws are constructed to provide welfare to people traveling on the road and safety from dangerous drivers.

There are many consequences one might have to face when it comes to DWI. These include the lasting effects that become a permanent part of the lives of the offenders. The DWI consequence, if realized by everyone around, may result in saving the lives of the driver, inmates and on-road passengers. So one should be careful not to mix driving with drink, and should act responsibly while driving any vehicle on the road.
